It’s always nice to reconnect with old friends, and I seem to be doing it a lot lately. Traveling to my hometown of Weston, MA to photograph the Carter family was no exception. Our families have known each other for what seems like forever; our parents grew up together in the same town and their parents probably did the same. It was only fitting that my sister and I would be friends with Shauntee and Mandi! I remember going to their farm with sheep and goats, we drew pictures from coloring books and made up our own rules to board games like Rack-O. We spent a couple of weekends at their house in Maine and on more than one occasion Steve and Donna (it’s weird for me to call them by their first names, even now!) ended up with both Lazzari girls at their house for sleepovers.
After graduation we all seemed to go our separate ways, but a couple of years ago – thanks in part to Facebook – we have reconnected like we never left. For Donna’s birthday the girls got her a portrait session; of all the photo work I’ve done for this refreshingly down to earth family this is my favorite series. Photographed at their family farm this meaningful location reflects their lifestyle and their values more than any other location could. With the addition of spouses and children it’s fun to see everyone at a different stage of life; I only hope I have the opportunity to photograph more milestones of the Carter/Fedele/Corbett clan!
