From our first phone conversation I knew that Catie and Nate’s wedding was going to be epic. “Natie” as they are affectionately known to their friends knew the kind of party they wanted to throw and weren’t going to let traditions or “should’s” get in their way.
The biggest lesson I took away from the sweet and sentimental anecdotes told by their friends during their oceanside ceremony was that Catie and Nate always stay true to themselves. Catie is secure in her love for color and cupcakes, Nate is secure in loving Catie just the way she is.
So when Catie wanted her friends and family to wear white and throw colored powder on them, not only did they support her but did so with infectious enthusiasm.
In chatting with Nate at the end of the night I confessed that my biggest fear was that I didn’t have enough safe and pretty images of the two of them.
His response was humbly fitting: “Well that’s why we hired you. We’re not safe and pretty”.
I’m so happy to share this uniquely ceremonious event, one that I was honored to be a part of not only as a photographer but as a human being. The day was complete with games, dancing, laughter, friendship, unconditional love and of course, lots and lots of color.
